SATURDAY AT THE 'MOVIES'

I went to see a great film at my local picture theatre on Saturday.

It was Bread and Roses an Italian film that's part of the Italian Film Festival.

It's an older film, made in 2000 and is a quirky romantic comedy directed by Silvio Soldini.

A middle-aged housewife from Pescara, is accidentally left behind while on a bus trip with her indifferent family. Instead of waiting for them to return and collect her she hitches a ride to Venice and temporarily starts a new life.
She meets a quiet melancholic waiter, gets a job with an eccentric florist and befriends a holistic beautician neighbor
Meanwhile her useless husband who has been having a long-time affair and misses her usefulness at home hires a 'mumsy- boy' wannabe private detective to track her down.
When found she briefly returns home to Pescara but the waiter who has fallen in love with her makes contact and she returns to him and her new friends.
Simple and romantic but definitely not a 'chick flick'. If the Americans had made this they would have made it loud and garish but Soldini has made it gentle and whimsical. It's well worth a watch.

At the theatre, The Roxy in Miramar I saw The Curmudgeon sitting a few rows in front of me. He seemed to like the film as well or at least he didn't leave early.

I didn't make contact as I don't really know him (I've just seen his photo on his blog).
